Merlyn “Butch” Briggman, 69, of Manchester, Iowa, died Friday, December 19, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. He was born on September 19, 1945, in Manchester, the son of Dean and Elaine (Morris) Briggman. Merlyn was raised and educated in the area, and was a 1964 Manchester High School graduate.
Butch served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve. He married his best friend, Elizabeth “Liz” Jones in Cedar Rapids. Together they lived in Hiawatha and Manchester and for the last 40 years, Butch was a machinist for Mclanahan Heavy Equipment Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids.
Butch enjoyed his family, friends, the outdoors, and old tractors.
Survivors include his wife, Liz Briggman of Manchester; two daughters, Laura Knoff of Hiawatha, and Julie Briggman of Jewell; his mother, Elaine Briggman of Manchester; a special adopted granddaughter, Caitlyn Rebecca; a sister, Annette Steffen of Bloomington, Minnesota; and a brother-in-law, Larry “Denny” Herman of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dean Briggman; an infant daughter, Marlene Kaye; two sisters, Marilyn Herman and infant Debra Briggman; and his son-in-law, Matthew Knoff.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Manchester, Iowa.
Visitation: 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2014, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home.
