Erma Carpenter – Manchester

Erma June Carpenter photoErma June Carpenter, 82, of Manchester, Iowa, died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, surrounded by her loving family under the care of Hospice of Comfort.  She was born on December 12, 1932, in Ansley Nebraska, to Donald and Bernice (Tyrell) Rucker.

Erma was united in marriage to William “Bill” Junior Carpenter on November 4, 1958.  She was employed at the Wagon Wheel Hotel as a bartender in her younger years.   She had a love for helping people and later worked at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, ARC out of Dubuque, and In Home Health Care.

Erma enjoyed sitting outside, fairs, and especially enjoyed being around her children and all of her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, William Scott (Angela Rounds) Carpenter of Manchester, Dianne (Del) Walton of Quasqueton, Dawn (Jerry) Bond of Manchester, Jim (Linda) of Nebraska, and Jerry Lewin of Nebraska; five step-children, Eugene (LuAnn) Carpenter of Winterset, Katherine (Bob) Strief of Masonville, William F. (Wendy) Carpenter of Manchester, Marsha Carpenter of Tipton, and Robert Carpenter of  Iowa; foster child, Bill (Paula) Porter of Central City and several other children including Shelly, Burton, and Renae of Manchester; numerous grandchildren,  great-grandchildren,  and great-great-grandchildren.

Erma was preceded in death by her parents; devoted husband and father, Bill Carpenter; two sisters, Virginia and Margret; one brother, Evert “Hershal” Rucker; three sisters-in-law, Helen, Mabel, and Genevieve; and a brother-in-law, George.  Erma will spend eternity with her two great-granddaughters, Harlee and Kayla and one great-grandson, Dalton.

Funeral Service:10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015,  at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Manchester, Iowa.  Officiating:  Rev. Dr. Leonard Ranson.

Visitation: 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2015, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester.

Interment:  Thorpe Cemetery  Manchester, Iowa

The Carpenter family invites everyone to join them for lunch at the Strawberry Point Methodist Church following the committal.
