The West Delaware School District participates in the Instructional Support Program, and the school board recently approved a change regarding their participation. The school board has approved additional funding for the 2016-2017 school year. The additional funding for the Instructional Support Program will not exceed ten-percent of the total regular program district cost for the budget year and moneys received under the Iowa Code as a budget adjustment for the budget year. No one spoke for or against the amendment at a public hearing last week.
The West Delaware School Board has also approved several staff changes. Nathan King has resigned as Assistant Baseball Coach. And new hires include Tiffany Rave as Head Softball Coach, Chad Sellers as Assistant 7th Grade Boys Basketball Coach and Erin Hunt as Early Childhood Special Ed Associate. The Board also approved the hire of two two-hour cafe/recess associates at the middle school.
The School Board approved the purchase of a new school bus to replace an old one. The cost of a new school bus is close to 98-thousand dollars, and the district has secured a grant from the EPA to cover a portion of the cost.
Several projects are in the planning stages for the West Delaware Athletic Booster Club, including softball dugouts and weight room purchases. The club has also purchased sticks for the light show.
The West Delaware Friends of Music had a busy holiday season with wreath sales, making about 46-hundred dollars on this year’s fundraiser. The group has also been busy working on the Winter Extravaganza and they’re preparing for Opera Iowa on March 17th. The Friends of Music has also purchased a bluetooth foot pedal for the West Delaware Middle School.
