District wrestling meets took place around the state on Saturday and all of the area schools in the KMCH listening area were in three locations with the top two in each weight class advancing to the state meet next Thursday through Saturday in Des Moines. In class 2A Independence qualified four wrestlers and they were Drew Davis at 132, Chase Straw at 152, Jake Juhl at 160, and Matt McMillan at 195 pounds. West Delaware had two wrestlers advance to the state tournament as Coy Roussell qualified at 170, and senior Brent Lammers won the 182 pound title. There were 10 class 1A wrestlers who moved on to the state tournament as they wrestled in the district at Jesup. Maquoketa Valley sent four wrestler to the state meet, as they were Tanner Parmely at 120, Trevor Koopmann at 160, Steve Huber will make his second trip at 182, and defending state champ Ryan Parmely will make his fourth trip to the state tournament at 220 pounds. East Buchanan and North Linn each had two wrestlers qualify to state, for the Buccaneers Kyle Decker made it at 132 pounds, and Michael Naber advanced at 145 pounds. For North Linn sophomore Brock Henderson remained unbeaten as he claimed the 106 pound district title and Kyler Schott won the heavyweight bracket to advance to Des Moines. Starmont’s Kody Kleve qualified at 113 pounds, and Ed-Co senior Sawyer Amling qualified for the fourth time in his career by claiming the 152 pound title. The Western Dubuque wrestling team will be well represented at the Wells Fargo Arena next week as they got six wrestlers through the district meet on Saturday. Bradan Birt qualified at 113 pounds, Dain Gansen at 138, Max Lyon at 170, Ryan Kenneally at 195, Dylan Hoefler at 220, and heavyweight Aaron Costello took the crown for the Bobcats. State Wrestling coverage on KMCH will begin on Wednesday morning as the Independence Mustangs will wrestle in the state dual tournament starting at 9 am with all three of their duals airing on KMCH and kmch.com. The individual tournament will begin Thursday morning at 9 with Western Dubuque and class 3A, followed by class 2A at 1:30, and concluded with class 1A starting at 6 o’clock Thursday evening.
