HS Girls Basketball: North Linn Ready For Another State Trip

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

The 2015 High School Girls Basketball State Tournament begins this morning in Des Moines with class 1A contests.  Tonight class 2A teams take the court.

The  number 3 seeded 23-1 North Linn Lynx take on the 6th-seed 20-4 Des Moines Christian in a quarterfinal match-up that is slated for 8:30pm. The Lynx are in their second state tournament in row and third as North Linn with 1997 being the first. It’s the sixth overall state appearance in community school district program history as 3 teams went in the six-player game, Coggon in 1945 and 1950 and Walker in 1949. Eleventh season head coach Brian Wheatley says the pressure and expectations of trying to achieve back-to-back tourney trips isn’t easy but great work ethics and positive community support made it possible:

Coach Wheatley believes that the experience from last season has definitely helped with off the court preparation for the journey but also once it comes to playing tournament games as well:

We’ll have all the coverage from Wells Fargo Arena downtown Des Moines, starting around 8:15pm with Sports Director Jon Swisher and Bill Logan live on KMCH and KMCH.com.

Other area listening county teams:

3:15 p.m. – Fremont-Mills (23-1) vs. Springville (21-3)

5:00 p.m. – Unity Christian (24-0) vs. Cascade (21-3)
