Composer of “Field of Dreams” Soundtrack Killed in Plane Crash

It’s a musical soundtrack many Dyersville area residents have become familiar with and taken great pride in over the past 25 years…

The man behind the music of “Field of Dreams” died earlier this week. Academy Award-winning composer James Horner was killed Monday after the plane he was piloting crashed in Southern California. Horner’s agents confirmed his death in a statement late Tuesday. Horner wrote the soundtrack to numerous movies over the years and was best known for his Oscar-winning music featured in the blockbuster film “Titanic”, which included the hit song, “My Heart Will Go On”. He was also well known for his Oscar-nominated soundtracks for such movies as “Braveheart”, “A Beautiful Mind”, “Apollo 13”, “Aliens”, “Avatar” and of course, the 1989 movie filmed in on a farm just outside of Dyersville, Iowa… “Field of Dreams”.
