Delaware County Fair’s Donkey Races Raise Money for Charities

The first-ever Celebrity Charity Donkey Races were a huge hit last night at the Delaware County Fair. Around two dozen county residents, many representing area businesses, competed in the first ever donkey races at the horse arena. Cade Perrinjaquet of Edgewood was racing on behalf of the Edgewood Fire Department. He came away the overall winner, managing to stay on his donkey for most of the race and get it across the finish line.
KMCH’s Janelle Tucker was one of the “donkey jockeys”, with some of her competitors including Delaware County Fair Queen Ali Schwietert, Dr. Craig Thompson from Regional Medical Center, QC Supply’s Mitch Dingbaum and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputy Jill Knipper. Most of the contestants in donkey race had spent the past several weeks raising money for the charity of their choice. Last night, around 35-hundred dollars in donations were presented to area charities such as the Stephen J. Cook Memorial, the American Red Cross and the new Veterans’ Memorial planned for Baum Park in Manchester. Barb Drew from Citizens State Bank raised the most money, collecting over $1,000 for Operation Santa Claus.
