In the class 2A Substate 4 Final at Farley in front of a standing room only crowd of 1,283 , the top-ranked Cascade Cougars improved their record to 37-3 with a dominating win over rival Beckman, 10-0 in six innings. The Cougars jumped on the board in the top of the first and never looked back scoring two runs orchestrated with RBI hits by seniors Mitch Recker and Luke Recker. The Cougars forced Beckman senior Connor Klostermann out of the game before three more runs were tallied in the second on a 2-out 3 RBI triple by senior Nolan Weber. One run was added in the third and fourth innings then three more runs came across in the sixth and that was more than enough for Cascade senior pitcher Derek Lieurance who was impressive by only allowing one hit, two walks and struck out 13 batters. The Blazers only had 4 baserunners, one reaching third base and were retired 123 in four of the six innings. Cascade earned their fourth trip to the state tournament in school program history and first since 2004. The Cougars will look for their first ever state tourney win next week as the number one seed, taking on the eighth seed 21-9 Mediapolis Monday morning at 11am. Beckman closed their season at 23-17 in their 5th Substate final in a row and say goodbye to 10 seniors.
In the class 1A Substate 4 Final in Manchester, the North Linn Lynx improved to 34-10 with a 7-3 victory over Jesup to claim the first state tournament appearance in program history. The Lynx jumped out to a 6-0 in the first inning and held on for the biggest victory to date in North Linn Baseball history. The path for the Lynx to get to state was not easy by any means, Coach Griffith was pleased with how his team responded after the huge upset victory over 3rd-ranked Lisbon Saturday night:

North Linn drew the 7th seed in the 1A bracket and will open up play this Saturday night at 7:30pm in Des Moines at Principal Park against the second seed, 29-0 Van Buren Community.
