Class 1A and 2A semifinal round play of the 2015 high school baseball state tournament takes place at Principal Park in Des Moines today. With our two area coverage teams looking for their second ever tourney wins and a chance to play in their first state title contests on Saturday. The 1A seventh-seeded 35-10 North Lynx will go up against No. 3 seed, 34-3 Pleasantville. The Lynx will be vying for a third upset in four games after taking down 3rd-ranked Lisbon in the district final, 2nd-rated Van Buren in the state quarterfinal and now the No. 4 team this afternoon. Ninth-year head coach Travis Griffith says the level of competition and plenty of competitive game experience has prepared his team to defeat the caliber of teams that they have in their postseason run:

The Lynx will face the top 1A pitcher in junior Zeb Adreon. The top-seeded Cascade Cougars will play their 2A semifinal against No. 4 Waterloo Columbus at 5pm this evening. The Cougars are 38-3 after their first round 6-2 win over Mediapolis Monday evening, it was the first victory ever in Cougar baseball program history in their 4th state trip. The Sailors beat Hinton Monday night, 3-0. Sports Director Jon Swisher and Matt Nauman will take the air around 4:55pm for all the action live on KMCH and KMCH.com.
