The Delaware, Dubuque and Jackson County RTA has been awared a state grant. The Iowa Transportation Commission will provide 84-thousand dollars to the Regional Transit Authority, who will use the money to buy a solar array. Transit program administrator Ryan Ward says this project is the first of its kind funded by a state grant.
The solar panels will provide all of the electricity for the RTA’s building in Dubuque. Ward says the RTA was looking for a way to reduce their energy costs and improve the quality of the facility, and this project should accomplish that goal – the estimated costs savings over a 25-year period will be around 139-thousand dollars. The RTA is one of five grant recipients in the state. The state grants fund 80 percent of the projects, with a 20 percent match in local funds. (Story courtesy of Radio Iowa)
