Helen Mae Waterman, 97, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. She was born on August 3, 1918, in Elkport, Iowa, the daughter of John and Stella (Phelps) Knospe. Helen was raised in the area and graduated from Elkport High School in 1936.
On June 12, 1937, Helen was united in marriage to Alvin R. Waterman at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elkport. Six children were born to this union. Helen worked as a nurse’s aide at the Edgewood Convalescent Home for over 25 years. After retiring, the couple moved to Edgewood. Alvin passed away in 2000.
Helen enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and playing cards. She loved to garden and especially enjoyed her flowers. Helen loved spending time with her family.
Helen is survived by five children, Randall (Kathy) Waterman, Richard (Eileen) Waterman, and Rhonda (Mike) Wilhelm all of Manchester, Roger (Shirley) Waterman of Colesburg, and Roland (Dottie) Waterman of Elgin; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Mary Waterman of Guttenberg; and three sisters-in-law, Ruth Knospe of Elkport, Kay Knospe of Elkader, and Betty Knospe of Crystal Lake, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Rudy, in 1998; a grandson, Russell; her sister, Marjorie June; and four brothers, Kenneth, Eugene, Dean and Keith.

Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Edgewood Bible Church in Edgewood, Iowa.
Officiating: Pastor James Reinhardt
Visitation: 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2015, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood, Iowa. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
