Hennessy Catholic School in Petersburg has a brand new playground. A ribbon cutting was held Tuesday night to celebrate the community’s newest addition. It all started with an idea from parent Penny Goebel, who says the kids just needed something better.
Goebel says their original goal was to get more swings and some monkey bars. They applied for several grants, which they received, and then moved onto fundraising, which brought in over 35-thousand dollars.
Volunteers helped install the playground equipment, just in time for the start of classes this Thursday. Hennessy Principal Dianne Makovic says this new playground equipment is really important for the kids.
Petersburg’s playground now has four new swings, a tire swing, monkey bars with rings, a jungle gym set and a zip cruise. The kids spent some time playing on the new equipment Tuesday night and they already have their favorites.
Goebel says the playground is a good addition to the small town of Petersburg.
