High School district football starts up for 11 of our 12 KMCH area coverage teams tomorrow night in week three of the season. Our area online and playback game of the week will feature two class A district 5 teams as Starmont hosts North Linn. Both squads will enter with 0-2 records with both teams losing to a class A and 1A school in their first two weeks. The Stars fell to Wapsie Valley and Clayton Ridge while the Lynx lost to Belle Plaine and Alburnett. Starmont has not scored on offense and their defense has allowed 54 points but 11th-year head coach Matt Lee knows improvement has taken place:
North Linn’s contests have been closer and they have played two very good first half’s but then ran out of gas in the last two quarters. Seventh-year head coach Jared Collum talks about the issues his team has faced:
Heading into district play, of the eight teams in district 5 only two of them have one victory a piece, those being East Buchanan and Lisbon. Coach Collum is not surprised by that with a lot of talent gone from a season ago:
Coach Lee agrees but thinks that will cause the district to be very competitive:
The Lynx won last years meeting at North Linn 42-36 in an offensive shootout.
