The class 4A top-ranked West Delaware Hawks improved to 18-0 with a 3-0 sweep over No. 15 Western Dubuque in Epworth last night. The Hawks increased their WaMaC East division mark to 2-0 while the Bobcats dropped to 2-1 and 6-4 overall. West Delaware started off well in game one, winning 25-21. The second set was a different story as the Bobcats were ahead late and the Hawks had to claw their way from behind and came away with s 26-24 victory. Hawks head coach Brett Mather commented on the first two games:
The Hawks came back with more intensity in the start of the third set and cruised to an easy 25-11 win. Coach Mather said he was proud of the way his tem responded after the close second set:
West Delaware is now 38-1 in sets on the season and will play at home for the first time in the new campaign on Saturday as they host their annual Hawk Invitational starting at 9am.
