By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:
Ten of our twelve KMCH area coverage teams will be involved in district play tonight. Eight of the twelve will be playing on the road.
The class 3A second-ranked 3-0 West Delaware Hawks play their first road game this month and for the time away in district play as they travel to Vinton, taking on Vinton-Shellsburg. The Vikings are 2-1 and 1-0 in district 3 as well. Hawks head coach Doug Winkowitsch likes what he has seen in the first three games but knows his squad has to continue to work on the fundamentals to improve:
The main thing that pleases coach Wink about his team is their even-keeled mindset they bring to game night each week:
The Hawks took down the 2-7 Vinton-Shellsburg team last season 48-7 at home, coach Wink shares his thoughts on why he believes they are much improved this year:
We’ll have all the coverage tonight from KMCH Sports live in Vinton on KMCH and KMCH.com with Jamie, Aaron and Bill after the Football Friday Night Pregame Show which starts at 7pm with Sports Director Jon Swisher.
Our Area Online and Playback Game of the Week will come from Waukon as the class 2A 8th-rated Beckman Blazers take on the No. 6 Indians of Waukon in a battle of 1-0 district 3 squads. Second-year head coach Jim Derr says despite the good start and favorable ranking he is nowhere near satisfied with the Blazers’ play and he knows they will have to improve to match the quality level of the top teams in their district starting tonight:
Waukon is 3-0 after a 3-6 mark a year ago. The Blazers won at home last year 30-20, coach Derr talks about the Indians improvement and the type of game it was last season:
All the action can be heard around 7:30pm live on KMCH.com with Sports Director Jon Swisher and Dan McClean, then played back after the WD game on KMCH and KMCH.com.
