This is Fire Prevention Week, and area firefighters want to make sure YOU know how to stay safe. This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep”. Dave Pierschbacher with the Greeley Fire Department says every home should have several smoke detectors – one in each sleeping room, one outside of the sleeping areas (such as the hallway) and at least one on each level of the home (including the basement). He recommends testing your smoke detectors once a month.
Manchester Fire Chief Mike Ryan says now that we’re entering the colder months of the year, fire dangers increase so it’s a good idea to take precautions now – and that includes having your furnace inspected.
Area firefighters observed Fire Prevention Week by visiting schools, providing station tours, and holding poster contests. The Manchester Fire Department held an open house Thursday night, and coming up on Saturday, the Edgewood Fire Department will host a special event. You can stop by the Edgewood Fire Department between 9 am and 3 pm to get your fire extinguishers inspected and serviced on site for a small fee or you can purchase a new one.
