Week 8 of the high school football season will see 6 of the 12 KMCH area teams hosting games tonight, one where a district title and undefeated record are on the line and others where major playoff implications can occur.
The class 3A 2nd-rated 7-0 West Delaware Hawks will host a huge game on Brown Field tonight as the 6th-rated 7-0 Independence Mustangs come to town for a highway 20 showdown. With the district three title on the line, the Hawks are trying to move to 8-0 for the first time since 2005 while the Mustangs Football program last accomplished that feat in 1943. Hawks head coach Doug Winkowitsch knows the Mustangs are having great success and gives high praise to the main component of that, senior quarterback Nicholas Holt:
The Hawks and Mustangs are two of just 32 unbeaten teams in the state along with listening area schools; Anamosa and Elkader Central. Coach Wink knows the big game atmosphere pressure will be there for both teams and his squad has focused on preparing to provide the best effort:
