Two Iowans Dead after Flu Virus Escalates

Flu season has just begun and two Iowans have already died from the virus. Iowa Department of Public Health medical director Patricia Quinlisk says the deaths come as the state sees an escalation in flu cases.

The two men lived in central Iowa and were between 41 and 60 years old. Around one-thousand Iowans died from the flu or related complications every year, but Quinlisk says there are many ways you can prevent the flu.

She says keeping yourself healthy and taking some basic personal hygiene steps will help combat the flu.

Many flu shot clinics have wrapped up for the season, but you can still get your flu shot through your doctor, healthcare provider or pharmacy. The flu season typically peaks in February and can last as late as May.
