The Girls High School basketball season officially gets underway with game competition tonight for a majority of the KMCH area coverage teams. The West Delaware Hawks will open up at home inside Seedorff Gymnasium against perennial power Waverly-Shell Rock. After five seasons longtime hall of fame coach Harold Shepherd retired last spring, freshmen coach Rod Conrad was promoted to the head coaching position of the program in early July. Conrad is no stranger to being a head varsity coach as he has 10 years of experience, serving for 5 at his alma mater of East Buchanan as head boys coach from 2004-2009 with a record of 79-28 and then took over the Independence girls program in 2009 and staying until 2014 compiling a 52-44 mark there. Coach Conrad says he was very pleased with his teams first outing on Saturday night at Waterloo West as they won the Hall of Pride scrimmage 62-53:

The Go-Hawks of Waverly-Shell Rock will present a tough challenge tonight as they were a state tournament last year and have had great success under head coach Greg Bodensteiner:
