Joyce L. McAtee, 69, of Independence, Iowa died Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, Iowa.
Joyce was born on January 19, 1946, in Walker, IA the daughter of Edmund and Leah (Keffer) Cook. She was a graduate of East Buchanan High School, and received an Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Kirkwood Community College. She spent most of her life working as a book keeper for Rowley Equipment in Rowley, IA. She volunteered many hours as a Treasurer at Hoover Wesleyan Church in rural Walker. Joyce had many hobbies, but she loved spending time with her grandchildren the most.
Joyce is survived by her mother, Leah Cook, Independence, IA, her children Michelle (Todd) Dudley, Walker, IA, Doug McAtee, Worthington, IA, Stephanie (Dave) Boies, Independence, IA, Kristin (David) Vargas, Winthrop, IA. Ten grandchildren, Collyn McAtee, Douglas McAtee, Gianna Vargas, John Berry, Kimberly Kress, Madison Boies, Mercedes Boies, Nicole Dudley, Natalie Dudley, and Trent McAtee, two great grandchildren, Chloe Kress and Kaison Tournier, two sisters Diane Davidson, Independence, IA, Sharon Wilson, Omaha, NE, and a brother Charles Cook, Amarillo, TX.
She is preceded in death by her father Edmund Cook.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 7, 2015 at 11 AM at the Reiff Funeral Home in Independence IA, with Pastor Charles Clark presiding Burial in Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills, Iowa. Friends may call on Sunday December 6, 2015, from 3 PM to 7 PM at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA.
