In Manchester: West Delaware hosted the 3rd annual Bob Murphy Invitational Saturday with four additional teams from last year’s field. Senior 182 pounder and the Hawks only returning state qualifier Coy Roussell pinned his first two opponents to earn a spot in the championship match. In the final Roussell made a first period takedown hold up against Davenport Assumption’s Chris Bridges as he won the match 2-1 to claim West Delaware’s first and only title on the day and a third place team finish behind Davenport Assumption and Central Dewitt. In Jesup: All 13 of East Buchanan’s wrestlers finished in the top three of their weight classes Saturday on their way to the team title, as they finished with 205 points which was 70.5 points better than second place Davenport Central. Max McGraw at 120, Kyle Decker at 132, Braydan Nunemaker at 145, and Heath Weber at 182 pounds won individual titles for the Buccaneers. For complete results follow the link to Track Wrestling.
In Fairbank: The North Linn wrestling team finished in 8th place in their first tournament of the year and crowned two champions at the Chris Davis Tournament at Wapsie Valley high school. Brock Henderson used a fall and a 3-1 win in the finals to win the 113 pound title, and Kyler Schott had three pins on the day including a 12 second fall in the final round to take the heavyweight title for the Lynx. In Monticello: Four area schools competed in the Monticello Guilford Invitational on Saturday. Ed-Co had one individual champion in Killian Welsh at 126 pounds as they finished in 8th place. Beckman’s Ben Hageman won the 160 pound title as the Blazers finished in 4th place. Monticello had two individual champions as Chase Luensman was the 106 pound champion, and Dalton Husmann took the 132 pound title as the host Panthers finished in 7th place. Anamosa finished in 5th place had 3 champions as Sam Dolan at 182, Dylan Wood at 195, and Colby Toenjes at heavyweight all won championships for the Blue Raiders. In Independence: Independence hosted their wrestling invitational Saturday with a loaded field of talented wrestlers and teams. The Mustangs had one individual champion in Nicholas Holt at 170 pounds as he came in to the tournament as the number two seed and knocked off top seeded Josh Strohman of Algona 5-3 in the championship match. In Dubuque: The Western Dubuque wrestling team took part in the Dubuque Invitational Saturday at Senior high school and had two individual champions on their way to a 3rd place team finish. Bradan Birt won the first title for the Bobcats as he picked up a major decision in the championship match to win the 113 pound title, and defending state runner up Max Lyon had three pins all under one minute to claim the 182 pound championship.
