The West Delaware Hawks girls and boys teams bowled Friday afternoon at Lightning Lanes in Manchester against Marion.
The WD boys Varsity squad beat the Indians by a score of 2898 to Marion 2659 with the high series being rolled by Sophomore Trae Boge with a 441 and games of 224-217.
The Hawk boys improved their record to 3 – 2.
The WD girls improved their mark to 5 – 0 with a victory over the Indians by a score of 2771 to 2152. The night featured a program school record breaking performance, Senior Hope Mozingo threw a near perfect game by rolling 11 nice strikes and throwing a 9 in the 10th frame for a 299 score. She then threw a 236 for her 2nd game and posted a series of 535. The totals shattered the 2012 score record of Leah Heim which were previously a 199 high game and 492 high series.
On Saturday the West Delaware girls competed in the Cedar Rapids Prairie Bakers Tournament with a field of 14 teams, most being larger schools including Prairie, Kennedy, Xavier, IC West, IC High, Independence, Louisa Muscatine and DeWitt Central. The field was divided in two divisions, which bowled 14 baker games, the top 8 teams were then placed in bracket play of which West Delaware knocked off DeWitt Central, Iowa City High, and Louisa Muscatine to win the Championship. It was the third year the Hawks have participated in the event and the participating members of the team were Hope Mozingo, Kaitlyn Werner, Chelsie Mangold, Sonya Nefzger, Miranda Axline and Andrea Salow.
