DNR Seeking Public Feedback on Proposed Alcohol Ban at State Parks

There’s a possibility alcohol could be banned at Backbone State Park’s beaches and recreation areas.  The Iowa DNR is considering that proposal at all state parks as a way to cut down on the number of alcohol-related incidents.

DNR spokesperson Kevin Baskins says the all-out “booze ban” is just one option. They’re hoping the public can provide them with more ideas.

Many Iowans opposed to the potential booze ban are posting angry comments on social media, but Baskins says people who support the ban are equally emotional, concerned about their young families who share state park beaches with unruly crowds. If you’d like to give your opinion, call the DNR’s Jessica Manken at 515-725-8488 or email Jessica.Manken@dnr.iowa.gov. Public comments will be accepted through Monday.
