Fareway Stores, Inc. will be opening a grocery store in Anamosa. The company announced Wednesday that it has plans to purchase the vacant Family Foods building on Main Street. Anamosa City Administrator Alan Johnson says after the news broke last month that Family Foods was closing, he contacted Fareway officials to find out if they were interested in the building. Fareway Stores, Inc. is currently working with local officials on acquiring the property, as well as plans to renovate the 20-thousand square foot building.
The remodeled grocery store will have new fixtures, equipment and other finishes, including a new full-service meat department. Fareway has 112 stores across the Midwest, including in nearby Monticello. Johnson says they’re excited to welcome the company to Anamosa.
Officials are hoping to open Anamosa’s Fareway store in late spring or early summer.
