West Delaware’s wrestling team moved to 2-1 in WaMaC dual action as they defeated Beckman 58-24 Thursday night inside the Seedorff Gymnasium in Manchester. The meet started at heavyweight and the Hawks struck first as junior Kaleb Zieser pinned Beckman sophomore Wade Rave in 1:46 putting the Hawks up 6-0. The Blazers then battled back as sophomore Jake Recker pinned Jordan Rausch to cut West Delaware’s lead to six, but back-to-back technical falls from freshman Mitchell Mangold and senior Owen Ward, and a pin by senior Rikki Million put the Hawks up 34-12. West Delaware led by 28 points heading into the last match and an exciting finish to the meet as Hawk junior Sam Johnson led 11-7 after back and forth first and second periods Johnson chose down to start the third. In the final frame Johnson picked up a reversal and quickly put Funke on his back for the third time in the match and picked up the fall in 4:57 to give the Hawks their fifth pin and 10th victory of the night. West Delaware head coach Voss comments that he has seen much improvement from just one week ago.
West Delaware now focuses their attention to the very tough Battle of Waterloo dual tournament which will consist of six dual meets in two days.
