Delaware County Fair Honored at International Convention

Best of Division_2015

The Delaware County Fair received multiple Agricultural Awards of Excellence from the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE). There are a total of 14 Agriculture Award categories, each divided into 5 divisions by attendance, that a Fair or Expo can enter. The entries are evaluated and judged by a team of industry leaders. These individuals are selected from the membership of the IAFE, which has over 1,200 members from around the globe.

Delaware County Fair Manager Jeannie Domeyer says the awards are a great honor.

In addition to two first place plaques, the Delaware County Fair also took home Best in Division honors. This award is given to one project from each size division the judges feel is the best idea from all of the categories. This prize was received from Category 6 – Something New at your Fair to Promote Agriculture. The project consisted of a life sized 3-D cow and a large 3-D milk truck sign to teach fair-goers how milk is made and how it gets to your table. Manchester Signs helped create the exhibits and they were funded in part by a Community Chest grant from Delaware County Community Chest.

Additionally, a first place award was received for the Delaware County Fair’s agriculture program featuring a Safety and Showing Guide designed to keep exhibitors safe and teach spectators what the judge is looking for in the show ring. The Fair worked with the Maquoketa Valley FFA chapter for information. Heritage Printing designed the guide which was funded by an ICASH grant and Simon’s Grain along with Hubbard Feeds who helped to sponsor the printing.

The awards were presented during the Excellence in Agriculture Breakfast on Dec. 1, 2015, during the 125th Annual IAFE Convention held in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Delaware County Fair can take great pride in knowing that their event has been selected for this prestigious honor. These awards are sponsored by John Deere, who is an avid supporter of the Fair and Expo Industry around the world.

The Delaware County Fair Board works hard all year long to provide fair-goers with the best fair week possible. Any awards that come from it are just “the cherry on top”.
