A Dubuque County native was among six U.S. military members killed in a suicide attack in Afghanistan earlier this week. Detective Joseph Lemm was a member of the Air National Guard and a 15-year member of the New York Police Department. He was deployed three times – twice to Afghanistan and once to Iraq. According to our news partner KCRG-TV9, Lemm was born in Dubuque and still has family living in the New Vienna and Buena Vista area. Lemm and five others died Monday after a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack on their patrol outside of Bagram Air Base. Bagram is home to most of the 9,800 troops in Afghanistan, who are working to train and assist Afghan military forces.
