Have you ever considered being a mentor for a child? Mentoring Connection for Delaware County is looking for adults who are willing to volunteer their time to mentor a child. Mentoring does not necessarily involve teaching a child, but simply spending quality time with a child who would benefit from having an adult role model in their life.
Mike Jackson is a youth minister at Methodist Church Youth for Christ in Edgewood. He volunteers as a mentor and says matches spend time doing all sorts of activities.
The mentoring program is growing in Delaware County, with matches in the West Delaware, Maquoketa Valley and Ed-Co School Districts.
If you’re interested in finding out more, you can call 563-379-3454, visit www.helpingservices.org or find Mentoring Connection for Delaware County on Facebook. January is National Mentoring Month, so mentoring displays are also set up around the county – you can check them out at the Manchester Public Library, Widner’s, Regional Medical Center, Community Savings Bank in Manchester and Edgewood, GNB Bank, F&M Bank, Trinity United Methodist Church in Edgewood and the Edgewood Library.
And the Delaware County Board of Supervisors recently proclaimed January as Mentoring Month. Below is a photo of Helping Services staff with the County Supervisors at the proclamation signing earlier this week!
