HS Sports: Wrestling Results Thurs. 1-7/Fri. 1-8 Preview

The West Delaware Wrestling team opened up the 2016 portion of the season last night as they  traveled to DeWitt for a WaMaC conference East division double dual with Solon and the host Sabers. The Hawks dropped both contests, first a close one to the Spartans 37-34 before falling to DeWitt Central 52-12. The Hawks fell to 5-14 and 3-3 in the WaMaC. Head coach Jeff Voss talks about the first night out to start the 2nd half of the season:

WD will return to action Saturday at the annual Benton Community Invitational in Van Horne. Coach Voss comments on the always competitive Bobcat Invite that starts the Saturday Tournament schedule:

North Linn beat Durant 66-12 and Cascade 38-15; Cascade handled Durant 66-6

MFL/Mar Mac took down Ed-Co 69-3 and Clayton Ridge 67-9; Clayton Ridge beat Ed-Co 47-24

Starmont took two last night – defeating Central Elkader 42-15 and Postville 35-27; Postville beat Elkader 45-12

Beckman got wins over Maquoketa 44-28 and Anamosa 60-6; Maquoketa beat Anamosa 45-26

Independence topped South Tama 48-18

Monticello fell to North Cedar 39-36; the Panthers also lost to Regina 46-21
In high school basketball play tonight around the KMCH coverage area. The Tri-Rivers Conference girls West division will have a team in sole possession of first place after the game in in Springville is decided. The Lynx are 10-1 and 6-0 on the TRC West side tied with Springville who is ranked #1 in 1A with a 9-0 overall mark.

All of the West Delaware and Solon boys and girls games have been postponed until a date to be determined because of the arrangements for Solon senior three-sport athlete Tanner Wymer, who died last Sunday.

The West Delaware girls and boys bowling teams open up the year with their final regular season home meet at Lightning Lanes in Manchester.
