The Monticello Area Chamber of Commerce held their annual banquet Wednesday night. Cheryl Dirks was awarded the 2016 MACC Lifetime Award- given to a Chamber member for outstanding leadership and promotion of the town and the chamber. Cheryl is an agent for HCH Real Estate in Monticello, has led many projects and has been involved with numerous groups over the years including the annual Monticello fourth of July parade.
Kardee’s Convience Store was one of the winners of the Community Pride Award for years of service to community and opening up new Kardee’s 151 last spring:
That’s Mike Cox who owns Kardee’s along with his family. Other winners of Community Pride Awards include Ross and Elizabeth Baty Monticello Public Library, Fancy Fritter, and Monticello Carpet and Interior.
Katie Farrowe is one of the 3 owners of The Jitney Wine Bar and says the Monticello Chamber does a great job of getting the word out about businesses in Monticello.

New Chamber Director Mary Phelan has been on the job for about five months.
Erin Cox, one of the owners of The Jitney was named the new President of the Chamber replacing Nick Miller of Ohnward Bank and Trust. New board of directors include Brian Cassidy- F&M Bank, Denise Nealson- Yogi’s Inc., Scott Schuttlefield from Shimanek,Shimanek and Bowman Law Office.
Guest Speaker was Bruce Aune from KCRG TV-9 who spoke for a half hour on the people he has met and places he has seen in his nearly 50 years of being in TV news.
