A few area teams took part in games on Saturday:
In girls play, Cascade took care of Beckman 44-23, North Linn beat Clayton Ridge 61-32.
On the boys side, Cascade won their sixth in a row on a special night in Cascade. The Cougars beat Beckman 48-43 in the 500th and final regular season home game for veteran head coach Al Marshall who is retiring after 48 seasons, 40 of them at Cascade High School.
Anamosa handled Central of DeWitt in a make-up contest at home, 71-43.
The final week of January starts tonight with a coverage area girls/boys non-conference doubleheader in Delhi as Maquoketa Valley hosts Monticello live from KMCH Sports. The girls contest will feature 2 double digit win squads, the Panthers are 10-4 and ranked 13th in class 3A while MV is 13-3 and unranked in 2A. The Wildcats have won 6 of their last 8 in the new year while Monti has secured 4 W’s in their last 6 games. This game always proves to be a tight hard fought battle with MV winning 42-41 last year in Monticello. Wildcats head coach Scot Moenck knows this one will be a good challenge and says the focus is on putting everything together now and finishing strong as the postseason is under three weeks away:
Speaking of the postseason, the regional pairings will be released today from the Girls Athletic Union with postseason play starting on Saturday night Feb. 13th.
In the boys game tonight, the Panthers are ranked 10th in 2A with a 9-5 mark but are 5-1 since the Christmas break. The Wildcats are 3-12.
All the coverage begins around 6:15pm this evening in Delhi with Sports Director Jon Swisher and Bill Logan.
