Manchester Officially Turns 150 Years Old

Manchester Logo v2Manchester officially turned 150 years old on Friday. The city was incorporated on February 5th, 1866.

Manchester Mayor Milt Kramer says businessmen James Dyer and William Chesterman acquired and developed the land in 1854, with the goal to extend the Dubuque and Pacific Railroad. And in those early days, Manchester wasn’t known as Manchester… it was originally called Burrington.

By 1865, Manchester grew to a population of 825 and the city has flourished since that time. The City of Manchester has planned a year-long Sesquicentennial celebration to mark this major milestone of 150 years. Each month of 2016 features a different theme to highlight Manchester’s uniqueness, with a community celebration event planned for July 3rd.
