HS Wrestling: 23 Area Wrestlers Advance To State Tournament

23 area wrestlers finished in either first or second place at districts on Saturday which qualified them for the this years state wrestling tournament which will take place this Thursday through Saturday at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

In class 1A:

For Maquoketa Valley Alec McDowell at 182 and Eric Heims at 220. Wildcat head coach Tim Andrews says the hard work by the two qualifiers is really paying off:

For North Linn Brock Henderson at 113 and Kyler Schott at heavyweight.

For Starmont Kody Kleve at 113.

For East Buchanan Kyle Decker at 132 and Braydon Nunemaker at 145, and Griffin Cabalka at 195.

In class 2A

For West Delaware Coy Roussell at 170. Hawks head coach Jeff Voss says Roussell’s experience at state will go a long way at this year’s state meet:

For Independence Drew Davis at 138, Jake Juhl at 160, Nick Holt at 170, Elliott Ryan at 182, and Matt McMillan at 195.

For Cascade Sam Martin at 113.

For Monticello Chase Luensman at 106.

In class 3A from Western Dubuque Jacob Close at 106, Bradan Birt at 120, Elijah Demmer at 132, Dain Gansen at 138, Max Lyon 182, Cody McDermott at 195, and Aaron Costello at heavyweight. Head coach Paul Cleary says he is stressing to his wrestlers to take one match at a time:
