The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office has a new deputy. Koda is a K-9, and this specially trained dog is the department’s fifth canine in Sheriff Bill Wolfgram’s 27 years with the county.
K-9 Deputy Koda is a two-year old Belgian Malinois from Slovakia. Deputy Ben Ward began training with the dog last November and started their patrol duties as a team just before the start of the year.
And K-9s aren’t a cheap investment… The dog and K-9 equipment cost over 21-thousand dollars. Wolfgram says some of that money came from drug forfeitures through the Sheriff’s Office, but much of it came from fundraisers and contributions.
