A Manchester teen has been honored for creating an event that benefits kids with cancer.
For the last four years, West Delaware senior Macy Gudenkauf has teamed up with her cousin, Carly Gudenkauf, to organize a 5K run and bike ride called “Brighten a Kid’s Day”.
She and her cousin put in a lot of work to pull off the one-day event that takes place each summer.
This year will be a little different for 18-year old Macy because she’ll being hosting the event on her own for the first time. But she’s determined to keep the fundraiser going. It’s brought in over 16-thousand dollars for the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital… proof that a young person can make a big difference.
Macy’s fundraising efforts were recognized earlier this month when she was named an Iowa finalist in The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. The nationwide program honors young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism.
