HS Basketball: WD Bobcat Girls Prepping for Third Straight Trip to State

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

The class 4A top-ranked Western Dubuque Bobcats Girls Basketball team is getting ready to make their third appearance in a row at the girls state basketball tournament in Des Moines. The 24-0 number one seeded Bobcats will tip-off around 6:45pm this evening against 9th-ranked, No. 8th seeded 15-8 Mason City. Bobcat head coach Amy Ostwinkle is pleased to have the presence of senior all-stater Megan Maahs, who has played since she was a Freshman, leading the way and is just one of many in the program determined to end their season with a W:

The sensational stretch of success over the past three seasons has produced 53 wins in their last 55 games with their only losses coming in the class 4A title game to Harlan in each of the past two seasons. Coach Ostwinkle says this group focuses on the victory not those in the past:

Coach Ostwinkle gives an inside look of the scouting report on their quarterfinal round opponent who will present a challenge to her defense but nothing they won’t be prepared for:

This team finds themselves in a different role heading into the tournament coming in as the favorite instead of the number two team like the previous two tourney’s:

All the coverage from Wells Fargo arena begins at 6:30pm this evening with Sports Director Jon Swisher live on KMCH and KMCH.com.
