A legislative forum was held at the Farm Bureau office in Manchester Friday morning, hosted by the Delaware County Farm Bureau and Delaware County Economic Development. State Senator Dan Zumbach of Ryan and State Representative Lee Hein took questions from the public, with topics ranging from water quality to mental health to the CRP program. The first question was brought up by DCED Director and local farmer Donna Boss, who asked for an update on Section 179. Representative Hein says the bill is still sitting in the Senate.
Hein says that’s nearly 100-million dollars staying in the taxpayers’ hands. And he thinks they can do it this year.
West Delaware Superintendent Dr. Kristen Rickey keeps in close contact with area legislators regarding school funding. She expressed frustration that school districts need to come up with their budgets before they know how much funding they’re getting from the state. Senator Zumbach says he understands her concerns.
Representatives from Senator Chuck Grassley, Senator Joni Ernst and Congressman Rod Blum’s offices also answered questions. Friday’s forum was the second such event hosted by the Farm Bureau and DCED in Manchester this legislative session.
