2011 Independence graduate and current UNI heavyweight Blaize Cabell was set to make his third trip to the NCAA Division 1 National Championships this Thursday through Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Unfortunately an illness prevented the senior from traveling with the team ending his collegiate career as a Panther. In Oklahoma City his sophomore season Cabell lost his opening round match to the eventual national runner up before losing on the consolation side to finish with a 22-14 record. In his junior campaign he finished 28-7 and made it to the quarterfinals in St. Louis where he lost to the 3rd place finisher and was one match a way from being an All-American and said this year he was ready to take the next step to make it on the podium:

Cabell who finishes 22-6 this season was the 14th seed and would have opened the tournament against 24-12 Joseph Goodhart of Drexel University. He says he will never forget that moment of stepping on the mat for the first time at nationals:

Although his collegiate career ended abruptly Cabell says he will forever cherish the five years that he spent in Cedar Falls:
