The West Delaware girls track team will open its season tonight as they host their portion of the West Delaware Early Bird Invitational. This year’s Hawks team will return six girls with state meet experience from last season as senior Bridget Hoffmann and junior Jamie Glanz both qualified for the high jump, and sophomore Madalynn Burke advanced to state in the long jump. In the running events sophomore Lauren Collier ran the 400 in Des Moines as well as running on the distant medley relay team. Junior Katelyn Mangold was on the 5th place 4×400 meter relay team, and Mangold and sophomore teammate Kira Vaske were on the sprint medley team that finished in 3rd place last year. West Delaware head coach Doug Engel says the experience this group has will help get the team where they need to be:

After two indoor meets Engel and the team are ready for the outdoor season to start to see how they match up with other teams and hosting this meet is a good gauge for doing so:
Other area schools competing tonight include East Buchanan, Ed-Co, Independence, Maquoketa Valley, and Starmont. The meet gets underway at 4:30.
