HS Girls Soccer: Hawks To Open Season At Home

By Jamie Vaske-Associate Director of Sports:

The West Delaware soccer team will open its season at home tonight as they host Benton Community in Manchester, and will be under new leadership this season as 2012 West Delaware graduate Matt Knutson takes over as the head coach. The Hawks were 3-14 last season and return all but one of their goal scorers from last season including the leading scorer from last season in Janna Utter who had 11 goals in 2015. Knutson says he is excited for the opportunity to come back and coach at his alma mater:

This years squad features 13 seniors and Knutson will rely on them to help lead the team and help the underclassmen transition into the varsity level:

After just three wins in each of the last four seasons Knutson says the team has set some goals and have put workouts in place to achieve those goals:

The Hawks opened the season in Van Horn last season and defeated Benton Community 2-1 but Knutson has told his team they can’t overlook the Bobcats because of what happened last year:
