The West Delaware boys golf team won their season opener as they defeated Solon by 18 strokes at Pin Oak Golf Course on Thursday night. The Hawks finished with 158 strokes as they were led by senior Clayton Larsen who shot an even par 36 and was the medalist of the meet. Junior Bryce Frick and freshman Gavin Soppe finished tied for second as they both shot a 1 over 37 which was two strokes better than third place finisher Marcus Martin from Solon. West Delaware head coach Tom Fetter says he was happy with how the team performed especially with the cold and windy conditions:
The JV squad also defeated Solon Thursday night and Fetter says some of them will continue to compete for varsity spots:
Next up for the boys will be the Benton Community tournament on Saturday and Fetter comments that the team will make a few adjustments and be ready to go:
The West Delaware girls golf team was in Solon last night to take on Vinton Shellsburg and the host Spartans. Vinton Shellsburg won the meet shooting a 215, Solon was second with a 216, and the Hawks finished in third with 243 strokes. Senior Mariah Kleitsch was the meet runner up with a 52.
The West Delaware boys and girls soccer teams were in action last night. The boys traveled to Center Point and fell to the Stormin Pointers 5-0, and the girls were at home and were shut out against CPU 9-0.
