Iowa Governor Terry Branstad was in the Edgewood area on Wednesday, visiting a tree farm. Jody Kerns, who owns the tree farm with her husband Jim, says the governor’s visit was in honor of Soil and Water Conservation Week.
The tree farms sits just a couple miles east of Edgewood, and Jim says it’s been around for nearly twenty-five years.
Local conservationists, as well as members of the Iowa Woodland Donors and Iowa Tree Farm Committee, were among those who visited with the governor on a rainy and cool afternoon. Ed-Co high school and elementary students, who hold field days at Kerns’ tree farm as part of their outdoor education classes, were also there.
It’s not often that the governor of Iowa comes to Edgewood. The Kerns’ daughters even got a chance to plant a tree with the governor.
