One of Independence’s city council members has been appointed the new police chief.
Dustin Dallenbach will replace current chief Randy Miller, who is retiring July 1st.
Dallenbach was recently appointed by Mayor Davis, with five of seven city council members voting in favor. Dallenbach, who has served on the Independence City Council for the past two and a half years, is also a Buchanan County Deputy Sheriff. He previously served as a police officer in Carroll.
Independence City Manager Al Roder says Dallenbach will have to resign his council seat before taking office as police chief. The City Council will have 60 days to fill his position once he resigns, which isn’t expected to happen until June.
