High School Baseball practice began around the state on Monday. The West Delaware Hawks are coming off of a 32-6 campaign which saw them fall to Waverly-Shell Rock in the substate final for the second year in a row. It was the 2nd consecutive 30-win season for head coach Nate Lahr who is starting up his third season with his alma mater with a record of 63-13. The Hawks lost seven seniors, five of whom were starters but return seven seniors and 9 players with varsity playing experience including 4 starters. Coach Lahr talks about how valuable those seniors who have been through the preseason schedule are when comes to leading the way for their younger teammates:

Seniors Max Ridenour and Owen Ward are the top two pitchers coming back from a year ago and will be expected to lead the pitching staff:
Quite a few starting spots will be open for competition and coach Lahr welcomes underclassmen to contend for major varsity playing time:
The Hawks will open up their game schedule on Tuesday, May 24th in Dubuque facing Wahlert.
High School Softball practice in the state begins next Monday, May 9th.
