Dundee Little League Names Field In Honor Of Long Time Coach

By Jamie Vaske-Associate Director of Sports:

There’s a new sign that hangs over the scoreboard in right center field at the ballpark in Dundee that reads Joe Keith ball diamond at Larry Guenther Park, and on Sunday afternoon with current and former players and coaches on hand the Dundee little league board unveiled that sign and surprised long time coach of the Dundee little league Joe Keith. Keith started coaching in Dundee in the early 1960’s and coached the Dundee high school baseball team and was the last coach of the team before the schools closing and for the past 15 years he has coached baseball and softball for the little league. After an introduction and the uncovering of the new sign Keith shook hands with all of the current and former players and coaches that were in attendance and threw out the first pitch in the final softball game of the day. Keith says he was surprised by the sign and felt honored:

Larry Guenther, who the park is named after played for coach Keith before passing away in a tractor accident on the last day of school of his junior year, and on that night Keith had given him a ride home after baseball practice. Guenther’s mother Babe was in attendance for the unveiling on Sunday and Keith says it was very special to him to have her there for the occasion:

Chris Demmer who currently coaches softball with Keith, along with other coaches from the little league said they wanted to do something special for him and he talks about how the idea came about to name the field in his honor:
