HS Boys Golf: State Golf Preview

Four area boys golf teams will compete at the 2016 state golf meet on Friday and Saturday and in class 3A the West Delaware boys team qualified by finishing second at their district in Ames last Friday and head coach Tom Fetter says he was proud of the way his team fought back after a rough first nine holes:

The Hawks will tee off at 10:30 Friday morning at Spring Valley Golf Course in Livermore which is a course they are familiar with and going into the meet Fetter says the team has very high expectations:

In class 1A East Buchanan won their district in Cedar Falls as they shot a 320 and will compete in the state meet which will be held at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown. The Buccaneers were second at last years state meet and head coach Scott Zhiss says his team is very familiar with the course:

Zhiss says that staying focused will be the key for his team to improve upon their runner up finish from a year ago:

The runner up from the Cedar Falls district was Ed-Co as they shot a 352 on their way to a state tournament appearance on Friday and Saturday. Head coach Don Zieser says he was very proud of they way kids fought to get through the district:

Zieser also says now that they’ve qualified for state they are ready to compete and have set their goals high:

In class 2A-

Monticello qualified for the state meet  and will play their state tournament at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge.  32-year head coach Curt Tauke says the expectation within the program heading into the season was they had the talent and skill to get to state and wanted to make up for not getting there last season:

For the Panthers boys golf program it is the first trip to state since 1980, Coach Tauke is proud of the hard work and commitment by this group of players led by four seniors to reach this goal:

Sophomore Race Cuckler will compete individually for Cascade.

Tee times for all classes will be at 10:30 on Friday and 8:00 Saturday morning.
