A Dyersville eye doctor has retired after four decades of serving the community.
Dr. Paul Ahern of Midwest Optometric Associates said goodbye to his patients on Thursday during an open house at his business. Ahern says forty years came and went pretty quickly.
Ahern joined the optometry practice of Dr. Robert Henkels in 1976, who started his practice in Dyersville after returning from World War Two. After much consideration, he decided to merge his practice with Dr. Joshua Woodland at The Woodland Eye Clinic, who has been in business in Dyersville for the past two and a half years.
Woodland says he’s humbled to continue the legacy that has reached back so far into the history of Dyersville.
Woodland says they hope to make the transition for patients as seamless as possible.
Dr. Ahern’s patients had an opportunity to meet Dr. Woodland at the open house on Thursday.
