HS Football: Area Teams Preview- Class 3A And 4A

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

The 2016 High School Football season kicks-off for all of our KMCH area teams this Friday night in week one play.

KMCH Sports takes the final preview look today on our area Class 3A and 4A teams.

In Class 3A, district 4-

The West Delaware Hawks are coming off a 12-1 district championship and semifinal season last year. Last years group climbed the history books and continued the tradition that puts the Hawks in the category of top programs in the state. They will try to continue that theme by reloading but it won’t be easy as they lost the offensive power of QB Max Ridenour and running back Coy Roussell. Thirteenth-year head coach Doug Winkowitsch talks about the off-season work by his players and the mindset they believe in:

WINK1 8-25

Only five starters return but one main component coming back is Division one commit, John Nagel. The 6-foot-6 240 pound senior tight end and defensive end has agreed to play for the Northern Iowa Panthers. Nagel had 453 yards receiving with 4 touchdowns on offense. Defensively, 46 tackles, 9 of them for loss and 6 sacks. Other players who garnered some varsity experience last season who look to provide leading roles include; Tanner Wessels, Jared Helle, Tyler Kelley, Aaron Thole, Kaleb Sparks and Kasey Wenger. The Hawks will have to continue to find depth on both sides of the ball, especially on the defensive side if they hope to come close to last years defenders who held opponents to under 16 points per game. That kind of effort will go along way in contending for another district in a new look district. The Hawks start their season this week on the road, battling highway 20 rival Independence.

The offense must improve as well  to be better overall, Dylan Gotto and Kameron Kramer are back to guide that side of the ball.
