By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

The West Delaware Volleyball broadcast season got underway last night inside Seedoff Gymnasium as the 5th-ranked Hawks knocked off the 2nd-rated Mustangs of Mount Vernon 3-2 in WaMaC Conference East division play. It was an exciting back and forth tussle that lasted two hours and four minutes. The Mustangs won the first set 25-16 and set 3 by the score of 25-22. The Hawks won game two 25-22, 25-23 in the 4th set and 15-12 in the finale. Hawks 21st-year head coach Brett Mather was very proud of his team for staying with it after a tough first set and finding a way to outlast Mt. Vernon:

MATHER1 9-2

Sophomore Claire Demmer led the offense with 17 kills for the Hawks who improved to 6-0 and will travel to the annual Vinton-Shellsburg Invitational Saturday.
