A Hopkinton church is permanently closing its doors.
St. John’s Lutheran Church has been in the community for over 150 years. Church member Suzanne Reiter says they’ve always been a small congregation, but it was a vibrant one too with dedicated members. This year, they dwindled down to seventy members and they’ve had to make the difficult decision to close the church’s doors.
Church members have spent the past week going through old church keepsakes and pricing them. They will be selling those items at a Tag Sale this Friday through Sunday from 8 to 5.
It hasn’t been easy for church members to go through those items and prepare to say goodbye. Reiter says there are many things she’ll miss about St. John’s.
Callie Sternhagen of Delhi says she has a lot of memories of the church – a place she says has been a “home base” for her and her family.
Hopkinton resident Kathy Jaeger says it’s the people she’ll miss.
St. John’s Lutheran Church will sit empty until the building is sold.
